The journal page tells you how to write a row the night you pull: how to keep a divination journal. This page is what to do ninety days later, when memory has already edited the story.
You will open one old reading — a daily line, a transit note, a hexagram, a compatibility paragraph — and score it as evidence. You will not improve the original sentence until after you score. Improving first is how a miss becomes a hit.
If you have no log, you cannot run this method. Start twenty dated rows; then come back. On-ramp: starting a divination practice. The science cousin that cares about hits and misses as numbers: astrology hit-rate tracking.
Pick One Artifact, Not a Mood
Choose a single dated item from about three months ago. Not “that winter.” Not a highlight reel of days that felt spooky.
Good artifacts:
- A four-line journal row (question, draw, night fit, next action).
- A saved daily line with a date stamp.
- A transit or solar-return note you wrote in complete sentences.
- A relationship reading you filed after a specific question.
Bad artifacts:
- A screenshot with no question.
- A forum post you did not write.
- A reading about someone who did not ask.
- Anything you already rewrote once “to be fair.”
If the folder is only triumphs, you are holding a scrapbook. Scrapbooks are allowed. They are not a review.
Write the date of the artifact and today’s date at the top of a new page. Title it Revisit, not Correction.
Score Fit Before You Interpret Again
Use the same 0 / 1 / 2 the journal uses, but score now, with three months of life in view. Do not change the original night score. Both numbers should stay visible.
| Score | Meaning | Test |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | No contact | You cannot name a specific, dated event that matched the claim |
| 1 | Stretch | You can make it fit if you squint or change the subject |
| 2 | Checkable | A specific thing happened that a skeptical friend would accept as “that is what the sentence pointed at” |
Rules that keep the score from becoming fandom:
- Prefer the original wording. If the line said “a difficult conversation about money” and you had a difficult conversation about sleep, that is a 0 or a 1, not a 2.
- Vague claims (“a season of growth”) almost never earn a 2. They are weather. Weather is not a hit.
- If you cannot find the original output, stop. Memory is the least reliable archive you own. See confirmation bias for why the hits stay and the misses evaporate.
- Base rates matter. If the claim is “tension with a partner” and you have tension most months, a hit is cheap. Coincidence vs usable pattern is the test for whether the next action was doing the work.
Write three lines under the new score:
- What I thought it meant that night.
- What actually happened, with dates if you have them.
- What I used the reading to do — act, wait, spend, avoid, tell someone.
Line 3 is the load-bearing one. A 2 that produced no action is trivia. A 0 that still sent you into a useful conversation may be worth keeping as a prompt, not as a forecast.
Keep, Drop, or Rewrite the Method — Not the Past
After the score, choose one of three verbs for how you will read next time. You are not allowed to edit the old row so that it looks wiser.
Keep the form if:
- You can point to two or more 2s in the last quarter that were specific.
- The next-action line was something a non-oracular friend might have suggested.
- You still know which system produced the sentence.
Drop the form if:
- The last quarter is stretch-1s scored as 2s.
- You only consult this system when you want comfort.
- The artifact was a verdict (leave, stay, they love you, the year will be lucky) and the life did not notarize it.
- Revisiting makes you cruel to someone, including yourself.
Rewrite the method if the system is still interesting but the question style was sloppy. Change one variable: shorter questions, no relationship grids without consent, night scores only, one system per sitting. Do not change the cosmology because a Tuesday was ugly.
If three or more old rows show compulsion rather than review: when to stop daily readings.
A Forty-Minute Pass You Can Repeat Quarterly
Set a timer. Do not browse.
Minutes 0–5. Find one artifact. Photograph or copy the original text. No commentary yet.
Minutes 5–15. New fit score. Write the three lines. If you feel the urge to pull a clarifier for the old reading, write “urge” and do not pull. The past is not a new question.
Minutes 15–25. Sort the last twelve rows, if you have them, into 0 / 1 / 2. Count. Do not narrate the count into a personality.
Minutes 25–35. Keep / drop / rewrite. One sentence each. Example: “Keep Mercury-style daily lines. Drop compatibility percentages. Rewrite questions so they name a weekday.”
Minutes 35–40. One next action for the practice, not for the old situation. “Score at night for fourteen days.” “No synastry without a written question.” “Pause until the first of the month.”
If the old artifact was a relationship reading, run the no-verdict protocol before you reopen the grid: how to read a relationship reading, and if you need a sitting that refuses the score, compatibility without verdicts. Do not use a quarterly review to prosecute a person with a three-month-old square.
What You Are Not Doing
You are not proving the system. A handful of 2s does not validate a tradition. A handful of 0s does not demolish one. You are checking whether this use, in your hands, named anything you could spend.
You are not allowed a second system “to explain” a miss. If you want to compare two systems on a new question, use the worksheet: how to compare two divination systems. Old misses stay misses. The Whisper history can supply dated lines if you copy them into the four-field log. An app streak is not a revisit.
Frequently Asked Questions
What if I scored everything as 2 at the time? Leave those numbers. Add today’s scores beside them. The gap is the review.
How many old readings do I need? One is enough to learn the motion. Twelve dated rows make the counts less theatrical.
Can I revisit a reading I got from someone else? Only the parts you asked for and still have in writing. Do not reconstruct a session from vibes.
What if revisiting makes me want to pull right now? That is information about the habit. Close the folder. If the itch is the story, see the stopping rule.
Where next? The nightly template: divination journal. The numbers: hit-rate tracking. A birthday-sized review that is not a forecast: birthday practice without prediction.
