A compatibility report wants to close. Hearts, bars, “82% match,” a red square with a paragraph that sounds like a future. You came with a human situation. The product returns a verdict because verdicts screenshot well.
This page is a protocol that refuses the close. It sits under how to read a relationship reading as the before and after method: what you do so a grid cannot pretend to be a court. The engine, if you need Western planet-to-planet comparison, is synastry. The prompt list that keeps questions on your side of the street: questions to ask.
Four moves. One sitting. If you skip a move, you are back in the score.
1. One Question
Write a single question before you open a chart, an app, or a saved report.
A usable question has a moment, an uncertainty, and a choice you still own. “Are we compatible” has none of those. It will recruit every dramatic line in the file and average them into a weather report you cannot act on.
Better shapes, borrowed from the prompt list and tightened for this protocol:
- “What happens when we plan money for a trip.”
- “How do I bring up reply-time without assigning a motive.”
- “What difference in rest needs are we calling a personality clash.”
If two questions arrive, pick the one you would still ask if the sky were quiet. A second question is a second sitting. Write the question down. If you cannot, you are ready to browse, which is a different hobby.
2. Two Charts
Name the two subjects and the engine.
Two natal charts in synastry: person-to-person contacts. You remain two people. Consent stays visible. This is the default for “what happens when we are in a room.”
One composite or Davison, if the question is “what is the project we built.” That is a third object, not a nicer synastry. Keep the jobs separate: composite vs synastry.
Dates only, if times are missing. Planet-to-planet aspects often survive. Houses and angles do not. Leave the missing parts unmarked instead of filling noon and then forgetting you did.
Write one line: Engine: synastry, planets only, times uncertain on B. If a product will not name the engine, treat the copy as mood. Two engines in one paragraph without a label is how a pair decides the cosmos contradicted itself.
You do not need the whole grid. Pick the planet-pair that matches the question:
| Question is about… | Start with |
|---|---|
| Visibility, being seen | Sun contacts |
| Talk, argument, texts | Mercury contacts |
| Permission, appetite, excuses | Jupiter contacts |
| A growth-story you are tempted to over-fate | Node contacts — optional |
Moon, Venus–Mars, and Saturn already have their own pages. Use them when the question is kitchen, heat, or cost. Do not open all seven as a vote.
If you are using more than Western astrology, label each system. A stack is a different object: what is a multi-system reading. Do not average “good” and “hard” into 61%.
3. No Score
A score is a collapse. It takes a grid — different planets, different jobs, different orbs — and returns a number you can send. Ask what was counted. If the answer is a secret algorithm or a sign-element table, you have a vibe.
Do this instead:
- Quote one calculated line (A’s Mercury square B’s Mercury, 2°).
- Write one descriptive sentence in ordinary language (“We argue about how to argue”).
- Write one scene from the last month that fits, and one that does not.
- Stop.
Do not count trines versus squares. Do not let a dramatic node paragraph outrank a boring Mercury line that actually matches the question. Do not let a missing contact become a missing future.
If the report arrives with hearts already printed, cover them. If there are no sentences, only badges, you are done. Description is allowed. Instruction is not, unless you hired a human to advise — and even then the advice is theirs. “You should leave” is a verdict wearing a planet. Mark the slide.
Sharing: if the other person did not ask for this sitting, you can still do steps 1–4 about your experience. You cannot forward their placements as a diagnosis. How to share.
4. One Next Conversation
End in the life, in one move you could complete this week.
The move is a conversation, a question, a boundary, or a small experiment — not a gem, not a second paid report, not a screenshot. It should make sense if every aspect were deleted.
Examples that pass:
- “I will ask how they want to handle planning, and I will say how I want to handle it.”
- “I will wait until Saturday to reopen the money talk, and I will bring the numbers.”
- “I will not interpret a late reply for seven days; I will ask one direct question instead.”
Examples that fail: pulling a composite to undo the first talk; waiting for a better transit; sending them the square so they “understand.”
If the sitting made the pair more cartoonish than they were yesterday, it failed. If it gave you a sentence you can take into a kitchen, it worked.
A difficult line can wait forty-eight hours before you act on the panic. That is a different method: sitting with a difficult reading. Do not let this protocol become a same-night second product.
A Worked Pass
Question. “We enjoy weekends and stall on weekday logistics. I want to understand what each of us is protecting when plans collapse on Tuesday.”
Charts. Synastry, both times known. Engine named. You open Mercury contacts, not the whole grid.
No score. Mercury–Mercury square, 3°. Sentence: “We fight about how to make a plan, not about whether we want one.” Scene that fits: the Sunday thread that died. Scene that does not: the in-person dinner that was easy. You leave Jupiter and the nodes closed.
Next conversation. “On Wednesday I will ask: when a plan slips, what would help you more — a new time or a night off? I will say I want the new time by noon the next day.”
That is a full use of compatibility. No percentage appeared. No one was graded. The chart named a dialect. The people still have to talk.
Refuse a sitting whose only question is yes/no on “meant to be.” Refuse a product that will not name an engine. Refuse to read a minor, or a third party who did not ask. The Whisper’s relationship layer can be the engine in step 2 if you already have the question. It is still a comparison. It does not replace step 4.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can we run the protocol together? Yes, if you can keep the grid from becoming a weapon. Some pairs do better with a mediator. The chart does not vote.
Do I need both birth times? For planet-to-planet synastry, often no. For houses and Sun–Ascendant, yes. Do not guess a time to unlock a verdict you have already sworn not to seek.
