A “best apps 2026” page is a snapshot. This page is the questions you can still ask in 2027 when the snapshot is wrong.
Beginner rankings still have a job: best astrology apps for beginners. What a serious product should disclose: methodology checklist. Data: privacy. Leaving: how to cancel.
The Checklist
1. Which sky? Tropical or sidereal? Which ayanāṃśa if sidereal? If the app will not say, every “your sign changed” fight is unresolvable. Sidereal vs tropical.
2. What happens with no birth time? An honest app still reads planets-in-signs and says houses are off. A dishonest one invents a rising at noon and talks about your 10th house. Western method: astrology without birth time. Multi-system: empty birth time.
3. Which house system? Placidus, whole sign, Koch — named, or not. Cusp planets should be allowed to be fences.
4. Can it name a method in one sentence? “Daily line from transits to natal Sun/Moon” is a method. “Our unique AI energy” is a mood. See the methodology checklist.
5. What is stored, where, and with whom? Privacy. Birth date is closer to an identifier than a horoscope joke.
6. How do you leave? If cancel is harder to find than subscribe, that is a review finding. Cancel.
7. Does the copy refuse a verdict? Fear-selling transits, medical claims, and “they will text” are disqualifiers regardless of UI.
8. One system or a stack? Single-system is not a sin. Pretending a sun-sign widget is a stack is. Why most apps stay on one system. What a stack is: multi-system reading.
Read One Day Before You Pay
Use the free state for a week if it exists. Log the line at night (divination journal). If you cannot remember a single specific, checkable sentence, you are paying for atmosphere.
This Journal will not invent a lab test of five apps you cannot reproduce. Ranked pieces on the site that name listings should still be checked against the store the day you buy.
Frequently Asked Questions
