Compatibility tools ask for more fields than most people have in their notes app. Dates, times, cities, names, gender, relationship type, a long text box. Some of those fields change the calculation. Some only change the marketing.
You need two full birth dates and a question you can recognize after the report comes back. Birth times, cities, and names are useful when you have them and distorting when you invent them. A compatibility reading should narrow its claims to match the inputs, not invent completeness.
The date-level map is birth date compatibility. The time-specific caution is synastry without a birth time. The yes/no version of the time question is do I need a birth time.
The minimum that still makes a reading
| Input | Required? | What it unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Full birth date (day, month, year) for both people | Yes | Life Path numerology; Sun and most planetary positions; BaZi year, month, and day pillars |
| A written question or situation | Strongly recommended | A report that talks about your week instead of a category |
| Birth time | Optional | Ascendant, houses, house overlays, BaZi Hour pillar, a more confident Moon |
| Birth city | Optional, with time | Correct local time and house cusps |
| Full names | Optional | Name-based numerology only; not required for a date-based reading |
| Gender or role labels | Optional | Some traditional texts use them; a modern written reading can work without them |
If you have only two birthdays, you can still start. That path has its own page: birthday-only compatibility.
Dates: get the calendar right
Use the civil date each person actually uses. Check time zones near midnight: someone born at 11:40 p.m. local time on the 3rd is not born on the 4th because your phone is in another country.
Year matters for every engine on this page. A “just the month and day” sign pairing is a magazine feature, not a compatibility reading.
For BaZi, the change of year is not always January 1. If a tool uses Lichun (around February 4) and another uses the January calendar year, the Year pillar can disagree. That is a setting difference, not a cosmic argument.
Times: only the ones you have
A recorded local time is worth entering. A guess rounded to the nearest hour is a different object. A noon default is a placeholder.
House overlays, the Descendant, and the Hour pillar all move with time. A confident paragraph about “their planets in your 7th house” is not available when one time is missing. Leave that sentence unwritten.
If a relative says “late afternoon,” you may still enter the dates and skip the time. The reading gets smaller. It does not get faker.
Cities: only with a time
City without time does little for Western houses. Time without city can be wrong if the tool assumes the wrong zone. If you know the hospital town, enter it. If you know only the country, skip the house claims.
Names: a separate calculation
Name numerology uses spelling conventions that change the result. A nickname, a married name, or a transliteration is a different input. Whisper’s Relationship Reading can run on dates and context without names. If you add names, use the spelling the person actually uses, and do not treat a name number as a second Life Path.
The question is an input
A blank question box produces a generic couple. Three or four sentences about a recent stall produce a report you can test. Include:
- How you know each other and for how long
- The specific recent event
- What you want to understand
- What choice is actually yours
Leave out medical details, other people’s secrets, and message archives the reading does not need. How a relationship reading works shows where that text sits in the flow.
What you do not need
You do not need both people present. You do not need astrological vocabulary. You do not need a credit card to see Whisper’s preview. You do not need a membership.
You also do not need a complete-looking chart. Completeness is not the same as honesty.
Whisper’s Relationship Reading uses Western astrology, BaZi, and numerology with the details and context you share. Continue with Google for a free preview. Birth time and city stay optional. The full reading is an optional US$30 one-time purchase.
Enter the details you actually have.
If a field would require a guess, leave it blank and read the narrower report. The narrower report is the one you can trust as a comparison.
Questions readers ask
Can I use a celebrity time or a rectified time?
Only if you are willing to treat every time-sensitive sentence as provisional. A rectified time is an interpretation, not a record.
What if I know one time and not the other?
Enter the known time. Keep house overlays and hour-pillar claims on the known side, and keep the unknown side date-based.
Do I need the other person’s permission?
That is an ethical choice, not a technical one. A private preview for your own question is common. Using the report as evidence against someone who has not seen it is a different act.
Editorial note
Input rules here describe what Western synastry, Life Path numerology, and Four Pillars calculations can support. They are not a requirement list for every app on the market.
