A day job and a portfolio can share one week and still fight. People open a career form hoping the page will pick a side: you were meant to freelance, the palace wants independence, 2027 will fill the calendar. The page can describe how you occupy work. It cannot send an invoice.
A career reading for freelance or portfolio work can name pace, visibility, and a testable next step; it cannot incorporate you, forecast invoices, or pick a client. It compares a work map against a pattern you already live. The retainers, the benefits, and the no stay yours.
For the format, start with what a career reading is. If the live choice is a company you would found, use a career reading before starting a business. If the project is still a night habit, start with a career reading for a side project. Roles live in how you create value. Money nature belongs in what a wealth reading is.
The weight people put on “your chart says freelance”
Freelance concentrates questions that are easy to postpone: runway, clients, whose health insurance, who chases payment. Someone already wants to quit, or already knows they do not, and wants 官禄宮 (Career Palace) to agree. That sitting is a search for cover.
官禄宮 can talk about how work is occupied. It is not a client. 財帛宮 (Wealth Palace) can talk about money style. It is not a rate card. Mixing them into “the sky said go independent” is how a weekend portfolio becomes a resignation without a test.
A better question than “should I freelance?”
That prompt returns a poster. Ask about the work you already do and the week you already have.

The Ten Gods can name output or officer as chart roles. They do not translate into “you should invoice strangers.” A Dashamsha career chart can add a second Vedic map of work. It cannot fill a calendar.
Write the recent moment: the project that paid once, the friend who said “just leave,” the week the day job emptied you. Write the number you actually have. Write which choice is yours this month — a scoped test, a delay, a no — not a lifetime identity as Freelancer.
If you do not have a portfolio yet, you do not have a freelance sitting. You have a restlessness sitting. Name that. The next step might be sleep, a sample, or a conversation, not a logo.
Facts a palace cannot see
Freelance work has clients, contracts, a skill you can deliver twice, and a month you can survive if no one pays. 官禄宮 does not see those facts. A Midheaven does not.
Keep 命宮 (Life Palace) from stealing the work question. A personality sentence about independence is not a rate. A fictional invoice week
Imagine this invented Thursday. Priya has a staff job and three friends who have paid her once for design. A career page says the Career Palace wants independence. By evening there is a draft resignation and a search for a studio name. There is no list of repeat buyers, no plan for the hours the day job currently pays.
A narrower sitting would ask how Priya wants to test two scoped projects in a season without treating 官禄宮 as a landlord. The next step is a written experiment, not a cosmic firing.
If the report made the portfolio more guaranteed than a first invoice, it failed.
How to use a result
- Name the engine. 官禄宮, a Ten God, a Dashamsha sentence, or mood copy?
- Mark description versus instruction. “This work can feel solitary” is description. “Quit on Friday” is instruction.
- Write one known thing about the job and one unchecked thing about the freelance week you imagine.
- Turn the unchecked thing into an ordinary next step: a sample, a conversation, a budget, a night of sleep.
- If you already knew the answer before the sitting, notice that. The report did not decide. You did.
