Venus says what is worth approaching. Mars says how you approach. When one person’s Venus aspects the other’s Mars, the synastry line is about wanting and being wanted in a recognizable style. It is the internet’s favorite “chemistry” stamp. It is also the easiest line to over-read.
Natal jobs first: Venus, Mars. The overlay method: synastry. The quieter glue: Moon contacts. The cost of staying: Saturn contacts.
Both Directions Are Different Sentences
A’s Venus to B’s Mars: A’s taste meets B’s heat. A may feel pursued (or crowded) in the exact aesthetic they already like.
B’s Venus to A’s Mars: the reverse. Chemistry can be one-way on this pair. Mutual Venus–Mars is a rhyme, not a requirement.
Read both. If only one exists, say so. A forum post that says “they have Venus–Mars” without names is a coin flip.
The Aspects, in Plain Language
Conjunction. Want and chase sit in the same room. Loud, simple, easy to mistake for the whole relationship. Can burn the furniture if there is no Moon or Saturn sentence to live in afterward.
Sextile / trine. Want and chase speak a dialect they both already know. Easy to start. Easy to coast. The work is noticing when ease became boredom.
Square. Taste and heat argue about how. The argument can be erotic or merely irritating. It does not schedule a fight every Tuesday. It names a friction style.
Opposition. Attraction across a table. Projection is the risk: you fall for the Mars you will not own, or the Venus you outsourced. Good for seeing yourself. Bad as a soulmate sticker.
Quincunx / inconjunct. Adjustment. The body says yes; the calendar says “wait, what are we doing?” Do not force it into a square’s story.
Orbs: keep them tight (3–5° for these personal planets) unless you like fiction. See aspects.
What This Pair Does Not Do
It does not measure kindness. It does not measure whether the pair can share a lease. It does not outrank a 7th-house overlay or a Saturn interaspect for duration. Chemistry without a repair process is a short story.
Friendship and work charts can show Venus–Mars too. Read the house overlay before you import a romance script into a colleague.
If you came here for a yes: questions to ask. If you came here to name a heat you already feel, this page is a vocabulary, not a warrant.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Venus–Mars required for attraction? No. Moon–Venus, Sun–Venus, Mars–Ascendant, and uncharted Tuesday nights also exist.
What if both are retrograde? Natal retrograde flavors the planet. The synastry aspect still happens. Do not add a curse.
Does a square mean incompatibility? It means a style of friction. Incompatible signs is a different, coarser question.
Where next? Moon glue: Moon contacts. Method: synastry. Composite as the we: composite vs synastry. Talk without heat: Mercury contacts.
