A rent number is already on the lease. A rate is already on the invoice. The remaining fog is not arithmetic. It is a preference — security, freedom, or a scoreboard — that the spreadsheet will not finish. That is a money sitting.
I Ching for a money decision means aiming one hexagram at a resource fork you can still execute — ask or wait, rate or salary, spend or keep — after the numbers are written, not asking the book to score a portfolio or pick a buy. It cannot certify a stock, a house, or a raise. It cannot tell you that 2027 will double your assets.
The format those questions would serve: what a wealth reading is. The chapter list that keeps money from collapsing into a luck stamp: how a career and wealth reading is structured. Phrase the cast with question hygiene.
If the fork is a role — stay or take the offer — use I Ching for a job decision. Do not let one figure quit and reprice.
What counts as a money fork
A money fork is a number you can move this month: ask for this raise or keep the current rate; take the salary or keep the invoice; build a six-month cushion or spend the same money on a tool.
If you do not have the number — rent, rate, balance — you are under-informed. Get the number. “Will I be rich?” is a poster. Rewrite until a friend could disagree.
Medical debt panic, a legal threat, or a bet you cannot afford to lose is on the stop list. The book is not a lender or a lawyer.
Four steps for a money sitting
1. Put the number on the page first
Write the amount, the date it is due, and what the other option costs. A hexagram aimed at a foggy “money luck” sentence will decorate a mood.
After the number, the question often sharpens. Not “should I take the salary?” but “what is the quality of trading invoice freedom for this paycheck’s hours?”
2. Convert so it is not “Should I”
| Fork you are gripping | Question that can meet a hexagram |
|---|---|
| Should I ask for more? | What is the nature of this unasked rate in the work? |
| Should I take the salary? | What kind of security is this paycheck actually buying? |
| Should I spend the cushion? | What is the quality of this spend against the buffer I said I wanted? |
Write it. Date it. One question. If you cannot convert it, you want a coin toss. Use a coin. Do not dress a toss in Zhou clothing.
3. Cast once
Six throws, or one computational figure if that is your honest method. Once.
Read in order: question, primary, changing lines, relating figure as tilt. Cheap money translations are a special hazard. Hexagram 55 names a peak-and-fullness weather, not a windfall. Hexagram 41 names a decrease, not “never invest.” Hexagram 14 names possession as a condition, not a ticker.
Write the paragraph the same day. If you skip the paragraph, you will remember only the kindest noun.
4. Name a money act the book does not have to sign
Twelve words or fewer: send the rate email by Thursday; keep the cushion and buy the tool next month; take the salary and write the hours you will not give. Then close the bag for fourteen days. Recasting because the first figure was not “Abundance” is shopping.
A later BaZi money sitting — how to read BaZi for a money question — is another map. Keep the labels. Do not average a hexagram and a wealth star into a luck percentage.
A fictional rate-or-salary week
Luis — invented for this page — invoices at a rate he likes and holds a salaried offer that would cover rent without chasing payments. He casts and receives Hexagram 55. A thread calls it “abundance, take the money.” He reads the salary as destined fullness.
The thread does not know that the salary buys twenty extra hours Luis already resents. It does not know the invoice history.
A sitting inside this method would say: 55 names a peak that does not last by wishing. The quality of the salary may be fullness-as-hours, not fullness-as-freedom. The next act is not “sign.” It might be “price the hours on one page next to six months of invoices.” Luis still picks. The book supplied a word for the trade.
If Luis also opened 財帛宮 (Wealth Palace) or a 2nd-house line, those are other rooms. 財帛宮 is income style on a Zi Wei plate. It is not a hexagram, and it is not a buy list.
What this sitting refuses
It refuses a daily hexagram as the money sitting — Thursday weather is not a rent decision — and refuses using the book to pick a stock, a coin, or a house. If a page promises a year when assets double, it has left interpretation. It refuses a second oracle in the same hour to vote the first figure nicer. “The hexagram said spend” is not a reason a partner can live with. You spend. Tell them the number.

Questions readers ask
Can the I Ching tell me if I will be rich?
No. It can name a quality of the fork you wrote. Richness is a life you build, not a figure.
How is this different from a job-decision sitting?
A job sitting aims at role, pace, and visibility. A money sitting aims at a number. They can travel in one week and still need two questions, two casts, two acts.
What if I need the money this Friday?
Move. A hexagram does not grant a delay a landlord will not give. Use the sitting, if you use it at all, to name how you move — which bill, which conversation — not whether reality applies.
Should I cast about someone else’s money?
No. That is a third-party reading dressed as care. Ask about your side of a shared budget, or have the conversation.
